Wounded Heroes Australia is very grateful to the Narrabeen Sands Hotel for treating our charity to a sumptuous feast at their recent Christmas in July event.
It allowed us to bring together a group of remarkable veterans who do great work in their community, and treat them to delicious food.
Here's to our Wounded Heroes Christmas in July Sydney crew - RAAF Veteran Mark “Macca” McIntyre (one of our amazing Wounded Heroes volunteers), RAAF Veteran Mark Leatham (Co-Founder and Head of Partnerships at Frontline Labs Australia), Navy Veteran Edward Lopez (President of the Cronulla-Sutherland Veteran Association and Welfare Officer at Kogarah RSL Sub-Branch) and his beautiful service dog Poppy, Army Veteran James MacDonald (Kogarah RSL Sub-Branch) and British Army Veteran Colin Bell (Kogarah RSL Sub-Branch).

Reflecting on the event, Wounded Heroes' NSW / ACT State Manager Jemma Pigott said:
“I feel blessed to be connected to great veterans embodying the Spirit of Service through Wounded Heroes, and am so grateful to Tylah Fairchild and all the team at The Narrabeen Sands Hotel. I was delighted to connect these veterans at your beautiful lunch - a great day in great company spent!”
Edward, ever the service-driven veteran, suggested taking meal portions home to support those in his community. The Narrabeen Sands embraced his idea, providing takeaway containers so he could bring Christmas cheer from their exquisite buffet to the veterans he supports.
"Our veterans need positive things like this, thank you to Wounded Heroes and The Narrabeen Sands Hotel,” Edward said.
Overall, our Wounded Heroes Crew had many a great takeaway from the day - fond memories, full bellies and Christmas cheer for those who’ve Served Australia and are in need.
They also had a delightful time connecting with the “Friday Coffee Girls” at the neighbouring table. This wonderful group of ladies expressed great interest in Wounded Heroes and donated carry bags to help Edward transport those delicious takeaway meals to veterans, generously donated by The Narrabeen Sands Hotel.
It was a heartwarming Christmas in July lunch on a cold wintery day. Thank you to The Narrabeen Sands Hotel for allowing Wounded Heroes to bring wonderful veterans together with lots of positive community spirit. Our charity believes collaboration and connection is key and we are committed to working together to make veterans' lives better! We are determined to curb the heartbreakingly high rates of Defence and Veteran suicide and really appreciate those who support us.
