PRESS RELEASE
Wounded Heroes Launches Veteran Centre in Townsville
Opening 9 September 2025
Townsville, QLD – Wounded Heroes Australia is proud to announce the opening of the Wounded Heroes Veteran Centre Townsville on Tuesday, 9 September 2025.
Modelled on the highly successful Veteran Centre in Ipswich, the Townsville facility will provide a lifeline of immediate crisis support for current and former Australian Defence Force (ADF) members and their families. Services include emergency financial relief, housing assistance for those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, and pathways to long-term stability and wellbeing.
The Centre’s sustainability will be driven by two key community hubs:
- Wounded Heroes OpShop – offering affordable goods while generating vital funds for frontline crisis support.
- Jim’s Café – a welcoming social space designed to bring together veterans, families, and the wider community.
“Townsville has one of the largest Defence communities in the country. The Veteran Centre will ensure no veteran or family member is left behind in their hour of need,” said Martin Shaw, President.
Wounded Heroes is also proud to welcome Frosty Mango, Mal’s Pies, Galactic Donuts, and Lamberts as community partners in this important initiative. Their support demonstrates the strength of local businesses in rallying behind our vulnerable veterans.
Connecting Veterans and Families
The Centre will act as a safe and supportive hub where veterans and their families can connect, share, and heal. Whether facing an immediate crisis or simply seeking a sense of belonging, the Townsville Veteran Centre will stand ready to help.
