Wounded Heroes Australia at the Southport Street Party

04 Jul 2025

On Saturday 28 June 2025, Railway Street in Southport came alive with colour, music and connection as the first-ever Southport Street Party burst onto the scene. And right in the middle of the action was Wounded Heroes Australia - serving up more than just great coffee.

This community event, proudly backed by Division 6 Councillor Brooke Patterson, was a vibrant celebration of local talent, food, and families. For us, it was also a powerful platform to share our mission, spark conversations, and raise awareness of the support we provide to current and former members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) - especially those facing crisis, homelessness or financial hardship.

A Day of Impact in the Heart of Southport

While the Street Party delivered free entry, live music, food trucks, kids’ activities, and market stalls galore - Wounded Heroes added another layer to the day: purpose.

Set up near the bustling food zone, our iconic Coffee4Heroes van was hard to miss. With its bold signage, delicious aroma, and our passionate volunteers behind the counter, we weren’t just brewing cups of coffee - we were opening the door to life-changing conversations.

Many locals stopped by for their caffeine fix and left with something more: an understanding of how Wounded Heroes steps in during the darkest moments in a veteran’s life - offering emergency accommodation, food vouchers, fuel support, and compassionate assistance during mental health crises.

Real People, Real Stories

What made this event so special for us wasn’t just the sunshine, the tunes, or the foot traffic (though all were top-notch). It was the stories.

A number of veterans and families visited our stand simply to say thank you. Some shared personal experiences - how Wounded Heroes had helped them or someone they loved. Others admitted they'd never heard of our organisation before but were deeply moved to discover what we do.

These organic, in-person interactions are invaluable. They turn abstract causes into real stories. And they remind us that public events like the Southport Street Party are about more than awareness - they’re about connection.

Coffee with a Cause

One of the highlights of the day was the buzz around our Coffee4Heroes range - especially our instant coffee flavours like Double Choc Fudge Brownie and Shortbread (a crowd favourite!).

Visitors were able to sample, purchase, and learn how every cup helps fund our frontline veteran support services. It was heartwarming to see so many people not only enjoy the product but light up when they realised that every dollar spent was part of a bigger mission.

From those looking for their next morning pick-me-up to others wanting a meaningful gift for a mate, Coffee4Heroes proved to be a hit - and a brilliant way to keep Wounded Heroes top of mind even after the street party ended.

The Power of Presence

There’s something uniquely powerful about being physically present in the community. Digital campaigns and media outreach are vital, but nothing beats face-to-face engagement - especially for a cause that revolves around trust, dignity, and lived experience.

Events like the Southport Street Party help break down barriers. Many Australians want to help veterans but don’t know how. When we’re out there - boots on the ground, coffee in hand - we provide that bridge. Whether it’s through donations, volunteering, purchasing products, or simply sharing what we do with others, every interaction moves the mission forward.

Community, Kids & Conversations

One of our team’s favourite parts of the day was chatting with the younger generation. Between face painting and fairy floss, we had dozens of kids and teens stop by - often drawn in by our bright set-up or the fun coffee van. Their curiosity sparked simple but powerful conversations with parents, carers and educators about the importance of teaching empathy, history, and the ongoing reality of service.

In this way, the Southport Street Party wasn’t just a family day out - it was a learning opportunity. A chance for families to talk about Australia’s veterans, the sacrifices made, and how we can all play a part in looking after those who’ve looked after us.

Huge Thanks to the Organisers

We’re deeply grateful to the team behind the Southport Street Party - especially Councillor Brooke Patterson - for creating such an inclusive, high-energy, and meaningful event.

It’s not easy to bring an entire street to life, but the team nailed it. From well-run logistics and thoughtful placement of stalls to the excellent entertainment lineup and warm community vibe, the event exceeded expectations.

For grassroots charities like ours, opportunities like this make a tangible difference. They help us meet new supporters, raise vital funds, and continue doing what we do best: showing up for veterans when no one else can.

How You Can Help

If you missed us at the Southport Street Party, there are still plenty of ways to get involved:

  • Buy a Bag: Our Coffee4Heroes instant coffee range is available online. Every purchase goes directly towards helping a veteran in crisis.
  • Donate: A one-off or recurring donation - no matter how small - can be the difference between a veteran sleeping rough or having a safe place to stay.
  • Spread the Word: Follow us on socials, share our posts, and tell your mates about Wounded Heroes Australia.
  • Partner With Us: If you run a business or event and want to make an impact, we’d love to collaborate.

Until Next Time, Southport!

As the music wrapped up and the crowds filtered off to CSI Club Southport for the evening celebrations, our team packed down the van with full hearts and plenty of stories.

Southport showed up - and we couldn’t be prouder to have been part of the first-ever Street Party. Here’s to many more events that bring people together, shine a light on important causes, and prove that community spirit is alive and well.

To everyone who stopped by: thank you. Whether you grabbed a coffee, had a chat, made a donation, or simply waved as you walked past - you’re part of the Wounded Heroes family now.

We’ll see you at the next one.
