President - Martin Shaw
Martin Shaw assumed the role of President of Wounded Heroes Australia in January 2011 and has remained unwavering in his commitment to the organisation’s mission. With extensive experience in corporate governance, business management and financial oversight, Martin brings strong leadership and strategic direction to the organisation.
A dedicated advocate for Australia’s veteran community, Martin actively engages with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and other key stakeholders to champion the needs of veterans and their families. His leadership has been instrumental in building valuable partnerships with ex-service, corporate and community organisations across Australia, strengthening the network of support available to veterans and their families as they rebuild their lives.
Veteran Centre Manager - Major Dave McHenry (Retd.)
Major David McHenry (Retd.) served in the Australian Army for 35 years, dedicating his career to leading, mentoring and supporting Australian soldiers both in Australia and overseas. Throughout his service he developed a deep understanding of the challenges faced by Defence members, veterans and their families, and remains committed to supporting the veteran community long after hanging up the uniform.
Since transitioning from military service, David has continued to give back through his involvement with Wounded Heroes Australia and the Far North Queensland veteran community. Drawing on his lived experience, he is a passionate advocate for practical support, community connection and ensuring veterans and their families know they are never alone when times get tough.

Yes! Jim’s Café welcomes everyone. It’s a community café where every coffee and meal supports veteran welfare services.
