Australian veteran Elliott Hawdon has been preparing to run a marathon, but unlike most, his run will begin just a few hundred kilometres from the South Pole at the foot of Antarctica's Ellsworth Mountains.
Underfoot conditions comprising snow and ice, an average wind chill temperature of -20 degrees Celsius, the possibility of strong winds that rush down elevated slopes, all at an altitude of 700 metres.
He chose to use the Antarctic marathon to fundraise for Wounded Heroes Australia (WHA), an organisation providing crisis support to current and ex serving ADF veterans and their families.
